How To And Not To Clean Wooden Blinds

>> Thursday, 8 April 2010

Wooden blinds present diverse issues and they need different measures for cleaning. You cannot use water, which means that quite a few of the methods talked about in the previous article simply wont work for cleaning wooden blinds.

These tips are better to keep in mind when cleaning wooden blinds:

Dusting cloths and vacuum cleaners with circular brush attachments are exceptional choices for cleaning wooden blinds, they may be used when the blinds are hanging or whilst the blinds are laying flat for cleaning.

Some wooden blinds could be cleaned with a slightly moist cloth. Check the manufacturer's directions before doing so and if you can't find the directions, keep away from using liquid all together.

Move from left to right or visa versa when dusting flat blinds and use descending strokes when it comes to dusting vertical blinds.

If you desire to focus on a particular blemish pay more attention to the troubled area with a dry dusting clothe.

Fabric blinds are more likely to magnetize extra dust than any other. As a result they will need more regular cleaning in array to keep away from excessive buildups of dirt.

Vacuuming and brushing are the most efficient alternatives to removing dust from blinds made of fabric. Doing so will also delay the attractiveness of these particular types of blinds.

You may clean them by soaking them in water but be cautious when doing so as fading and staining is a likely trouble when doing so. You could always send them to the dry cleaners rather than risking detrimental harming by washing them at home.

On a final note: if you wash down any of your blinds with a piece of material softener once you've cleaned them you will find that they are more liable to prevent dust build up for a little while longer than if you do nothing at all.

Traditional and Contemporary Wooden Blinds

>> Tuesday, 16 March 2010

Wooden blinds are available in many different natural woods which offer a practical and affordable window treatment. The vast range of colours found within natural wood provides a great choice and diversity of looks to compliment a room’s interior design style and décor.

Natural oak wooden blinds come in a range of colours and shades. Light oak provides an beautiful beige colour which can look extremely attractive in smaller rooms. Natural oak which has a green hue brings nature right inside in an imaginative and practical way, whereas dark oak can look elegant and refined in large rooms within homes and office environments.

Vertical wooden blinds offer the perfect solution for blocking out bright sunlight in a conservatory or south facing room, by titling the louvers the blind provides complete control over the amount of light entering a room. When fully closed the overlapping slats provide complete privacy and block out unwanted natural or artificial light and are an effective way of reducing heat build up. If an uninterrupted view is required the blinds can be stacked back against the recess of the window or door frames. As the majority of wooden blinds are treated with acrylic lacquers they are resistant to fading from the sun and scratching. Strong sunlight will over a period of time fade a wooden blind however, many people prefer this naturally faded look rather than a pristine new look. Faded wooden blinds create the perfect window dressings for a ’shabby chic’ interior design style which is becoming increasingly fashionable.

The acrylic lacquers and coatings also help prevent dust from building up on the louvers and slats while also offering all important fire resistance. Wooden blinds are easy to keep clean and can be wiped wipe a soft lint free cloth periodically to remove dust. Many people prefer to use blinds as a more hygienic window treatment than fabric curtains, as cooking odours and other undesirable odours such pet odour is not trapped on the surface and can easily be wiped with a damp cloth to remove them, this can be carried out while the blind is in-situ and is also a very cost effective as no dry cleaning is necessary as with some fabric curtains.

Traditionally wooden blinds were quite noisy and clumsy to operate, but today’s wooden blinds are made with smooth running actions and are made from more durable woods which do not bang together when the slats are closed. The versatility and affordability of a wooden blind is such that many people chose a wooden blind and then paint or stain it to match their own individual interior design colours.

Wooden blinds are both a practical and affordable way to dress a window, and traditionally wooden blinds are used as the sole window dressing, however, they look equally stylish when teamed with fabric curtains. Wooden blinds also enable the valuable window sill surface to be utilised with favourite ornaments and ’treasures’ without interfering with the opening and closing action of the blind.

Wooden Blinds Components - Seeing All Aspects

>> Wednesday, 10 February 2010

They have their own unique features which help in all aspects-both in aesthetic appearance and in the way they can actually scientifically help.

The Advantages of Wooden Blinds Components

In terms of ambience and mood, wooden blinds are known for their ability to make rooms appear rather attractive and charming. They look so cozy that one can easily feel at home with their presence inside the room. Most of these wooden blinds are made out of basswood which is a light type of hardwood. Its design is naturally occurring since basswood comes stained with different shades and wooden tones. They can also easily blend in with the furniture inside your home since they come as very basic and standard in their design.

On dispersing Heat

Another advantage known to wood blinds is that it can absorb heat without dispersing it out into the room. It is a known scientific fact that wood cannot conduct heat. More than just toning down the light inside the room, you should remember that direct sunlight also gives off heat. When it comes in direct contact with aluminum blinds, you have to keep yourself off from touching the louver because it can be really hot due to its exposure to sunlight.

Vinyl can also conduct heat although on much lower levels. Sometimes, aluminum blinds will also disperse the heat inside the room if the sun is shining too directly on it. Because of this you will just realize that your room has become hotter than it should have been. With wooden blinds, you don't have to worry about such things.

Are There Any Disadvantages?

Since wooden blinds components are not perfect, there are some downsides which you should also consider. Window blinds made out of pure and genuine wood are often a bit pricey. This is because it entails a rather laborious process of being put together as compared with other window blinds. But if you still want to try it yet you have a limited budget, you can opt for some faux wood instead. This comes in more affordable prices since it is not made out of genuine wood.

Aside from the price, you should also remember that wooden blinds can be come quite tasking to maintain. You can only brush it or wipe it with a cleaner and never ever make the mistake of cleaning it through the use of water. This can cause an ugly discoloration to happen on the wood and can also make its components brittle.

Dark wood blinds on the other hand, bring all the mystery and charm of an English woodland scene whilst maintaining a modern look through the clean linear pattern of the blinds.

However the crisp, repeating pattern of the blinds is not there solely to look pretty, it actually serves a very functional purpose. The slat blinds can be angled an infinite number of ways which effectively gives you complete control over the amount of sunlight you want coming in through your windows. Wooden Blinds - A Great Way to Add Class to Your Room

When selecting something to cover your windows in a new house or apartment, curtains can be an easy option. The problem is that curtains often look tacky and don't suit the rest of the decor. Wooden blinds on the other hand are great way to add a much warmer and classier feel to your room.

Wooden venetian blinds are the type with slats that run horizontally. You can alter the amount of light that is let through by adjusting the tilt of the blinds. The larger the gaps in the blinds, usually the more light that floods in. Alternatively you can hoist the blinds up into a bunch to allow maximum sunlight into the room. Venetian blinds are ideal for windows or single doorways.

If you have a long doorway or set of windows you may want to consider vertical wooden blinds. Vertical wooden blinds can be pulled from side to side to expose a window or French doors. They can even be as a unique method of dividing a large room into small rooms. When covering large spans of window/door consider using two vertical blinds that approach from either end.

Wooden blinds are not typically included in the cheap blinds category unless you are catching them on sale. A cheap alternative are faux wood blinds, faux wood blinds offer many benefits over regular wooden blinds. They are easy to clean due to their great resistance to water, which also makes them good choices for your bathroom or kitchen. They are not scratched or marked as easily as a wooden blind making them excellent for kid's bedrooms or rumpus rooms. On the other hand they are heavier than wooden blinds and they don't come in as large a range of stains and paints. This can make it difficult if you are trying to match the colour to existing furniture.

If you are looking for that roman blinds look in wood no further than bamboo blinds. Roman blinds are the type of blind that fold as you draw them up into a bunch. Bamboo blinds are also great at giving you that Asian culture feel.

No matter what kind of blind you choose it's always important to search for the best price possible and to ensure that the blind will fit your window or door. That's all for now, until next time happy blind hunting!

The Rich Warmth of Wooden Blinds

Wooden blinds are a practical way to dress up your home or office. They're inviting, warm and good heat insulators that can keep your living room cool during a sunny day, and warm during a cold night. They have a fantastic way of creating a natural ambience to your home. For warmth, durability and natural beauty, wooden blinds are the number one choice by many.

Wooden blinds are available in a multitude of colors like ash, beech, cherry, oak, mahogany and cedar colors, even bamboo looking and are available as vertical or venetian style. Woven wooden blinds are made from thin strips of wood, such as bamboo, which are woven into one flat sheet. One of the best benefits of choosing a wooden window blind is that it is durable. Whether they are richly stained or painted, wood blinds are one of the top selling window coverings on the market today. Having a linear quality wood window blind will blend well with any contemporary interior by combining curtain treatments and draperies.

Wooden venetian blinds are designed to bring the beauty of wood into your home and protect against sunlight and are also perceived to be classier and relaxing than vinyl blinds. Because of this classy appearance they are no longer the cheapest window treatments on the market today. True wooden blinds can be rather pricey, often more than some are willing to pay. An alternative option to wooden blinds are faux-wood blinds or vinyl blinds, which are less expensive than wooden blinds, but offer the same benefits.

Things to consider when purchasing wooden blinds:

1. Wooden blinds are attractive; however, they don't necessarily close tightly so they are not great as a true blackout shade.

2. You can get them online in a variety of standard sizes, but cost can be prohibitive so consider alternative retailers or styles.

3. Wooden blinds are one of the most environmentally friendly materials used for window blinds.

4. Care must be taken to ensure that the wooden blinds are made as fire resistant as possible as wood by nature is quite flammable.

Overall we feel that wooden blinds are a beautiful and natural choice for window treatments if the situation calls for it. They are the ideal accessories to compliment wooden floors and are available in a variety of sizes and colors.

Buy Cheap Wooden Blinds

If you're thinking of re-decorating and you're looking for a cheap alternative to dressing up your windows, you may want to consider purchasing wooden blinds. They are never out of style, and they remain the classic blind that many new and old homeowners choose, above all other types of blinds on the market.

It's hard to say exactly why wooden blinds remain so popular, though it probably has a good deal to do with the fact that they are classy and they fit perfectly no matter how your room is furnished. They fit in well with the modern, elegant designs and with the homey old-style designs. And because they fit with any room décor, it doesn't matter how many times you re-decorate because the wood blinds will fit perfectly no matter what else you change in your room. Wooden blinds have a real warmth to them, which they add to any room they decorate.

Commonly, wood blinds are made from hardwoods and they are often finished with different stains, some stained light, other darker. You can even find painted wooden blinds, with white being a very popular choice for painted wooden blinds.

One thing to be aware of is that wood, even bass or hard wood does tend to warp in humid surroundings. For this reason they may not be the best choice if you live in a more humid climate and they aren't always the best choice for areas such as bathrooms. If humidity is a problem for you, there is also the option of faux wood blinds, which have a similar appeal and look almost they same but are more resistant to warping and damage by humidity.

There are many options when it comes to dressing up your windows with wooden blinds. There are some lovely wooden vertical blinds on the market these days, which are very elegant. My favourite is the wooden venetian blinds which look great and are very easy to keep clean. Wooden Roman blinds are also very popular choices too, although they're not as easy to care for as venetian blinds.

If you have non standard sized windows that's no problem at all, as most retailers offer either standard sized wooden blinds, or they can custom make them to suit you. You can also choose what slat size you would prefer. Customized blinds are slightly more expensive than the regular standard blinds, but not enough to make them un-affordable. Even custom wooden blinds are a very good choice for the budget conscious buyer. In fact, they are some of the cheaper blinds available these days. So, if you're looking for something classy and elegant, warm yet not too expensive, be sure to check out the selection of wooden blinds currently for sale. You'll be sure to come up with something that suits both your needs and your budget.

Are Wooden Blinds Right For Your Decor?

Wooden blinds are just one of those classical styles. While many other styles and fashions of furniture and decor go in and out of style, there is just something classy about a nice set of wooden blinds that matches the room decor, that makes it one of those 'always in style' home decorations. As long as the blinds are not exposed to too much sunlight, or an environment that is too wet or humid, they should last a long time.

The first question would be whether wooden blinds would be best suited to your home decor needs. While there is not much question that they are beautiful and classy, if they don't go well with your existing room decor, then that would defeat the point of having them in the first place. You should also consider your environment; if you live in a wet and humid place, you might want to rethink the wooden blinds - this kind of weather will ruin them in nothing flat, making them pretty ugly pretty quickly.

After you have decided that you want wooden blinds, and that they go well with both your environment and your room decor, the next question is what kind of blinds to get - there are a large, large variety of blinds to choose from - wooden venetian blinds, wooden plantation shutters, wooden mini blinds, wooden vertical blinds, wooden roller blinds, and even bamboo roman blinds, although whether this last item can truly be classified as 'wooden blinds' is a bit up for discussion.

As far as what style of blinds goes with your room decor; that would be up to your taste and personal preference. One key point that deserves mentioning is that if you have wooden furniture in your room, always, always make sure that the color of blinds you choose matches with the existing furniture (unless you are planning on buying all new furniture to match your new blinds). Beautiful wooden blinds of one color do not go well or look nice with beautiful wooden furniture (or wooden walls or floor) of a different shade or stain. Of course, you could always paint the wooden blinds, but there is a case to be made that the natural look of the wood, whether it's a lighter brown or darker brown, is a lot classier than sticking paint on it. Many companies will simply dry the wood over a kiln and then give it a nice stain. You just want to make sure, if you do custom order your blinds, that the stain given to them is exactly what you want. If it's not, or if there are any other problems with your blinds, you are stuck with them - many online companies, in particular, are pretty clear about not accepting refunds.

Of course, you can always buy your blinds in a store or shop, the advantage of this being that you can likely return them if they are the wrong size or stain (It goes without saying that you should always check if this is the case before you buy them). And if they are the wrong stain, you could repaint them or have them covered with a different coat of stain. On another note, for after you have the blinds, a good idea is to get a can of paint, or stain, that is exactly the same color as your blinds. Then, if the paint peels, or if your stained wood blind gets chipped, you can cover it quickly and easily.
