>> Monday, 8 February 2010

If you are considering having wooden blinds installed in your home as a window covering there are certain things that one needs to take into consideration. Certainly wooden blinds not only add a more natural look to a room's décor but also can add a touch of elegance as well.

There are many benefits to be gained from having wooden blinds installed on the windows in your home. Firstly they are able to actually help to keep out more light and secondly when closed they can help to prevent cold from getting into a room in the winter. Plus they will ensure that they give you complete privacy from the outside world.

When it comes to choosing which kinds of wooden blinds you have for your home there are many different colors that they will come in. So you will be sure to find some which perfectly match or complement the décor of the room into which they will be installed.

Some kinds of wooden blinds actually don't have any holes in them and so will stop any light from getting into a room. Plus this means when they are closed the slats actually fit more tightly together as well. The sizes of slats in the blinds can vary considerably and you can have ones that are only 1/2 inch wide to may 2 or 3 inches in width. The size of the slats can provide a completely different look to a room and how much warmth they keep in the room when open and closed. Finally you need to make a decision on whether you want the slats on your blinds to be horizontal or vertical.

Next you need to decide if you want your blinds to be opened and closed by a motor or manually. Certainly motorized wooden blinds are going to cost more than those which you have to open and close yourself. If you have windows that are large or high off the ground then a motorized system would be better.

The next decision you need to make after all of the above is what they are going to be made from. Today there are various different materials from which these kinds of blinds are made from, including Basswood (natural and distressed), Oak, Cedar, Cherry, Bamboo and even Faux Wood. So it is a good idea to compare each one and look at the pros and cons in relation to their maintenance and care.

However, you don't even have to stick with the natural look of wood on these blinds if you want you can actually have them stained or painted in any color you choose. But painting often causes them to lose that elegant look that you may want to achieve in a particular room.

Certainly if you have a room in your home where you have lots of wooden furniture then installing wooden blinds can further enhance the overall beauty of that room. Plus if you find that you cannot get the exact color of blinds to match the furniture then using a simple stain should help you to get what you need.
